Site Issues

I’m so sorry about the problems with the site. Here I’ve asked you to listen to my husband’s music and objectively critique it and yet you aren’t able to leave those critiques in the comment section. Sounds like a sneaky plan to me! Just kidding, of course. If there have been any comments that could even be considered negative, they’ve all been constructive and really helpful. But I will admit, I’m having affirmation withdrawal. I love checking the site periodically throughout the day and seeing your positive comments. It’s a really good ego boost for the songwriter, too. You know those creative types. They’re soooo sensitive!

Anyway, I realized a couple of weeks ago that I hadn’t put my e-mail address anywhere on the site. I had meant to put it up, but I kept forgetting about it. So now’s as good a time as any. Until I get it up permanently somewhere on the sidebar, I’ll just give it to you here. If you have a comment that you just have to get off your chest or a burning question that you didn’t want the whole world to see, just send an e-mail my way and I can get back to feeling good about what I’m doing here. I’ve really been in the dark here these last couple of days!

Your husband’s songs are wonderful; truly inspirational with a beautiful melody. I especially like the piano in the songs.

What you are doing with posting the music is such a good idea. :-)
Thank you very much because your blog has become yet another little light in my life.

    God bless you two!

I just loaded up your blog and my husband was standing nearby and said, “Have you commented yet on their music?” and I said “Yeah, like every song!” and he said “I should get on there and tell them how you listen to their songs all day long… that’s all I hear around here anymore, not that I mind or anything…” ;) Hey, I have to come here for the ones I don’t have on CD!! :)

My wife has been playing your music for a number of weeks now and I wanted to leave a comment on your experiment. I can summerize my thoughts into three categories. The first is that the style of music on your blog is very much unlike the overwhelming majority of music heard on the radio or sold at retail. It is distinct, in a [very] good way. Maybe not distinct in the “get a big deal” sort of way, but distinct in the sense of unique amd uplifting. What makes it distinct are my next two points.

Your music is striking because it tells beautiful stories people can relate to. It isn’t the repitition of a catchy beat and chorus over, and over, and over… and over again. There is a story, rich with vivid colors and ideas, that delivers a message that in many of the songs covers an array of shared human experiences. Some of the songs are sad and others cheerful, but all trend toward giving me a moment of pause to reflect. The stories are neat and the messages provoking.

Which is my last point: your lyrics do an excellent job of communicating thoughts and emotions beyond the general story. It is difficult to separate the two concepts, but the meaningful story is communicated with lovely words and meter that evoke emotion. The stories have heart.

This is very much unlike much of modern music. Your music isn’t glossed over with heavy beats, jazzed up voice overs, all to catch the ear with a jingle like quality. The music you have presented on your blog to this point cuts across the grain–and I like it.

I don’t listen to much music; when I do listen to music it is praise music or instrumental. I have a difficult time picking out lyrics in a lot of music and when I do I am am usually turned off quickly. We are careful about what our eyes see and try to be equally cautious exposing our ears to equally unedifying words.

Your music is encouraging and I hope you, and others like you, find success. The music industry is a very tough market and can be quite fickle. I don’t buy much music (the last CDs I purchased were in 1999 when I picked up a dozen or so classical sets on discount!) but I told my wife if you guys eventually publish a CD I would like to purchase a CD to support your efforts. Your songs are beautiful and I am glad your blog has given you an oppurtunity to share them; hopefully one way or another (online distribution?) you can reap some of what you sow.

May God continue to bless your efforts to produce edifying music that gives us moments to pause, and reflect, on the important themes and moments in life. Thanks for sharing your work with everyone.
